| Description: | Application: PHENOX® 2246 is an excellent long term stabilizer for synthetic rubbers and latexes by protecting against the effects of oxygen and heat without influencing processing or vulcanization properties. At the recommended doses, the damaging consequences of over vulcanization can be avoided. At these levels there is no tendency for blooming to occur during vulcanization and on contact with lacquered surfaces it does not cause discoloration or corona formation. In light colored vulcanizates PHENOX® 2246 retards the crazing effect caused by exposure to light. Prolonged light exposure of purely white vulcanizates containing PHENOX® 2246 will result in the formation of a pink tint which is masked in light colored compounds. PHENOX® 2246 also has insignificant volatility with the absence of migration and so is an excellent long term stabilizer for thermoplastics such as polyoxymethylene (POM) and ABS. When used in combination with thio fatty acid esters or organic phosphites PHENOX® 2246 forms synergistic systems with visibly increased effectiveness. Food contact: PHENOX® 2246 is listed in Section 175.105 of the Food Additives Regulations as a component food packaging adhesives and in Section 177.2600 as a component of rubber articles intended for repeated use in contact with food. Total antioxidant is not to exceed 5% by weight of rubber product. It is also permitted for use in olefin polymers per Section 178.2010 at levels not to exceed 0.1 wt. % of the finished product, in contact with foods of high water content, alcoholic beverages, moist and dry solids containing no free fat or oil on the surface, etc. Appearance: White to off-white powder Melting point: 127 oC min Ash: 0.2% max Loss on drying: 0.5% max | |
